Below, we’ll explain everything we’ve heard about this great phone so far, including the likely release date and price. We’ll also add to this article whenever we hear something new, so check back soon to stay in the Pro Max loop.

iPhone 14 Pro Max release date and price
Our best guess for when the iPhone 14 Pro Max – and the rest of the iPhone 14 lineup – will be announced is September 13. indicated this date.
So far only one source has it, so we’d take it with a pinch of salt, but no other specific date has been announced and September 13th would make a lot of sense, because in recent years Apple has always announced new iPhones number around mid-September, and usually on a Tuesday, September 13th.
That’s not when you’ll be able to get your hands on the phone – expect it to ship around 10 days later, likely Friday 23rd September.
However, while those dates seem likely, there’s a chance they’re wrong, especially since lockdowns in China have apparently delay production for a few weeks. Although Apple is apparently aiming to return on schedule.
Regarding the price, a source suggests that we could consider prices similar to the iPhone 13 rangewhich would mean a starting price of around $1,099 / £1,049 / AU$1,849 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
However, another source claims that the next phone will start at $1,199 (around £955 / AU$1,665) – that’s $100 (around £80 / AU$140) more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. A price hike would certainly be credible given the number of updates expected on this phone.
iPhone 14 Pro Max design
The iPhone 14 Pro Max might not look like any previous iPhone as Apple gets rid of the notch. We have heard this from a number of sources, the first dating from septemberand including the render which you can see below.
This image indicates that there is a small camera cutout in place of the notch, much like many Android phones. There’s also a lot less rear camera bump here, with the phone apparently made thicker to achieve this.
The source adds that the frame is apparently titanium instead of stainless steel – which we have heard more than once.
This original leak is from Jon Prosser, but a number of other high profile leaks such as Ming Chi Kuo and Marc Gurman have since also said that the iPhone 14 Pro Max will not have a notch.
However, some of the detail in the render above now looks wrong, because rather than having a single camera cutout, a number of sources now to suggest the iPhone 14 Pro Max will have two – a small punch-hole and a larger pill-shaped one next to it. You can see what it might look like in a leak schematic and in the leaked CAD renderings (computer aided design) below.
One of these renders also shows a large camera bump on the back, which might be more accurate, because a leaky diagram suggests that the rear camera block will actually be larger than on the iPhone 13 Pro Max – no smaller than the initial leak above.
iPhone 14 Pro Max screen
Although the iPhone 14 Pro Max seems like a big upgrade in many ways, its screen may not be one of them, with Ross Young – a leaker with a good track record – claiming it will have a 6.68-inch 1284 x 2778 OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 458 pixels per inch. These specifications would make it identical to the screen of the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
We also heard from Ming-Chi Kuo that the next phone will have a 6.7-inch screenand we wouldn’t expect Apple to change the size, as it’s not something it does often.
It’s still possible for some display details to change, like brightness, but so far it looks a lot like the iPhone 13 Pro Max screen. Except, of course, that this time there probably won’t be a notch protruding from the top.
Camera iPhone 14 Pro Max
The camera looks set for a big upgrade on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, as in place of its predecessor’s (wide) 12MP primary sensor, this phone would have gotten a 48MP. This is according to respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has made this claim many times, but another analyst has also now echoes this assertion.
Apparently, this camera would be able to record 8K video (compared to 4K on the iPhone 13 Pro Max) and would be joined by two other cameras. We’ve heard less about these other two, but they might just be the same as before, i.e. a 12MP ultrawide and a 12MP telephoto snapper offering 3x optical zoom.
It was a question of a periscope camera capable of 5x optical zoom, but the current consensus seems to be that it won’t land until the iPhone 15 lineup next year.
iPhone 14 Pro Max specs and features
The iPhone 14 Pro Max is said to have an A16 Bionic chipset, which is no surprise since the current model has an A15 Bionic.
How upgradeable this new chipset is is less clear. Although some sources suggest it could be made on a 4nm or even a 3nm process – versus 5nm for the A15 Bionic – the most recent leak indicates that it sticks at 5 nm.
Smaller numbers are better here and a move to a smaller number would usually suggest a significant increase in power and/or efficiency, but even if it stays at 5nm it’s sure to see improvements.
The RAM could be either stick to 6 GB Where increasing to 8 GB depending on who you ask. We heard the request for 6GB more than one time however, that seems more likely at the moment.
Storage could get a big boost though, potentially head to a mammoth 2 TB. That’s double what you can get in the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Another possible but less likely change is using an eSIM instead of a physical SIM. Current iPhones have both, and if Apple takes that step, there will likely also be versions of the iPhone 14 Pro Max that support physical SIM cards, as not all mobile networks even support eSIMs. for the moment.
Battery iPhone 14 Pro Max
The iPhone 14 Pro Max could have a bigger battery than its predecessor according to one source, though its size is unclear. It’s a promising claim though, as the iPhone 13 Pro Max already has excellent battery life.
In the area of unlikely features, there have been rumors of a switch from Lightning to USB-C. It will probably happen eventually – especially now that the EU has made it a requirement from 2024 – but we doubt that will happen on the iPhone 14 lineup.
There has also been talk of a portless iPhone at some point in the future that would only support wireless charging, but it doesn’t seem likely that Apple will go that far for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
