Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest ended yesterday with a bit of a plop. There was some interesting announcementsincluding a June 16 release date for TMNT: Shredder’s Revengebut the Geoffening was mostly eclipsed by the little Day of the Devs presentation that immediately followed. Still, Keigh3 – or whatever we call it – had a revelation that was both puzzling and hilarious. It was for Coffee Stain Studios Goat Simulator 3who recreated a zombie dead island 2 trailer to literally troll everyone who watches the show. Still.
Originally released in April 2014, goat simulator is a wacky third-person physics-based action game where you control a goat and wreak havoc on the inhabitants of the game world. It’s bonkers in the best possible way: a meme game that lets you stretching the goat’s limbs or strapping a jetpack to its back or any number of other stupidly crazy shenanigans. The game was ported to just about every console, but didn’t receive a direct sequel until Hot Geoff Summer, where Coffee Stain skipped a second entry for Goat Simulator 3.
The world premiere trailer for Goat Simulator 3– seriously, what happened to Goat Simulator 2? – began with Geoff standing on a digitized beach, saying it’s “a sequel we’ve all been waiting for a long time.” Before getting to the reveal, he made a few other misstatements, saying that we “don’t want to get bitten” and that we finally have an update after “many years of rumours.” Geoff then cut to the game’s trailer, which showed an all-white runner taking a brisk jog on a very sunny boardwalk. He turned up his music and stretched before starting. He pointed to a woman rollerblading, who gave him the thumbs down before being headbutted by a goat. He even continued to run, totally unaware of the chaos around him.
Like, come on. This is the dead island 2 trailer from hell a long time ago. In case you forgot, Deep Silver revealed the highly anticipated zombie survival sequel during Sony’s E3 2014 presentation. white joggers on what appears to be the Santa Monica Pier in California. He was clearly bitten by a zombie and chooses to spend his last moments running until the infection catches up with him. The trailer ends with the runner jogging alongside a horde of zombies before getting splattered.
People sadly fell in love Goat Simulator 3is lagging behind. As the Summer Game Fest live stream unfolded, many took to social media to express enthusiasm at the thought of dead island 2 is finally back after nearly a decade away only for this hype to turn into dismay. Some have praised Coffee Stain Studios for the “divine” bait and switch, while others were very disappointed to learn it was not dead island 2.
Kotaku reached out to Coffee Stain and Deep Silver for comment.
This ain’t Coffee Stain Studios’ first time copying a Dead Island trailer either. When Goat Simulator was first released, developer released launch video who parodies the Olympics dead islandtrailer of. It featured slow-motion gameplay footage of a goat crashing into a building after being catapulted from an exploding gas station. It seems to me that Coffee Stain is playing not only us but also Deep Silver, since dead island 2the development of has been so precarious he changed studio several times already. Deep Silver has been relatively quiet when it comes to the long-awaited zombie survival game, so perhaps Coffee Stain is just as curious about it. Apparently, dead island 2is still in development. Maybe.
Goat Simulator 3 will launch on PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox Series systems this fall. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about dead island 2.
